Diagnostic Testing Available
CAROTID ARTERY TESTING
Uses color enhanced ultrasound to evaluate the carotid
arteries in the neck to determine the presence, location
and severity of plaque formation (blockage). Significant
blockage in these arteries may lead to a stroke.
VENOUS DUPLEX
Uses color enhanced ultrasound to evaluate the veins of
the arms or legs to determine the presence, location, and
severity of “blood clots”. Blood clots may be fatal if found in the deep vein system and need prompt medical attention.
Ultrasound of the veins may also be used to determine the
function of the valves or other abnormalities in the deep or
superficial venous systems. These conditions may lead to
varicose veins or ulceration of the skin.
ARTERIAL DOPPLER
Uses a combination of blood flow recordings, Doppler
ultrasound (sound waves), and blood pressure recordings
to determine the presence and severity of arterial blockages
in either the arms or the legs. Treadmill exercise testing
may be performed to further evaluate the lower extremity
circulation at times of increased work load.
ARTERIAL DUPLEX
Uses color enhanced ultrasound to determine the exact
location and severity of arterial blockages or aneurysm
formation in either the arms or legs. This information
is used to make a determination of the type of treatment
that is best suited to correct the problem (surgical or
catheter controlled balloon angioplasty/stenting). This
type of testing is also used to follow arterial bypasses
that have been placed to correct arterial blockage.
ABDOMINAL DUPLEX
Uses color enhanced ultrasound to evaluate the major blood
vessels in the abdomen to determine the presence, location,
severity of arterial or venous blockages, as well as, aneurysm
formation. This includes, but is not limited to, the abdominal
aorta, iliac arteries, blood flow to the liver, spleen or kidneys.
